Leap into action with the Frogs - three weekend workshops in May, June and July.
Come and play with Box of Frogs at the Blue Orange Theatre!
Saturday May 25th.
Truthfulness In Improv with Klaus Peter Schreiner.
Klaus says “In this workshop we emphasize the creation of truthful stories. How can we make the audience care about the characters? How can we use emotions to make the narration credible? How can we use truthfulness to entertain? Often improvisation theatre simply tries to be funny, but there are so many more ways it can be used to captivate an audience. This will be practised in a highly motivational and fun atmosphere encouraging improvisers to explore their skills of expressing emotion.”
More about Klaus at www.klauspeterschreiner.com £30. (Not for beginners.)
Saturday June 29th/Sunday June 30th.
Musical Improv – with Heather Urquhart and Joe Samuel of The Maydays.
Heather and Joe say “A weekend dedicated to all aspects of music, singing and comedy. Heather and Joe will take you through a vast range of singing styles, song structures, exercises and games. Really useful for those who want to give it a go but need a safe environment to let their musical hair down. Petrified? Don’t worry, by the time you leave you will be ready to sing in front of anyone!”
A real treat, lots of learning and bags of fun. More info on Heather and Joe at http://www.musicalimprovcomedy.co.uk/ £85 for the weekend. Open to everyone. Book soon – places will go fast!

Here is footage of the fabulous two part “Lavish Historical Drama” from the Airplay show at the Blue Orange on April 13th. Well done to all involved!
(There were all kinds of technical issues with the sound, which I won’t bother you with, but the upshot is that quality is variable, and the sync sometimes wanders, but I thought better to upload than not, so here it is.)
Saturday April 13th at the Blue Orange Theatre, 8pm, Box of Frogs presents an evening of Improvised Radio. Tickets just £5. Facebook event click here.
I’m delighted to announce the return of Weekend workshops at the Blue Orange, running roughly once a month. And to kick us off, there will be 2 in March:-
Saturday March 2nd 2013 – Improv Basics.
Suitable for everyone, from zero experience through to Improv regulars, who wants to brush up on basics. Or if you’re just looking for a way to brighten up a Spring Saturday with some serious silliness – come along and play.
Sunday March 3nd. 2013 – “Play All Day”.
A whole day of Improv games. An “as much fun as you can bear!” all-day-play buffet!
Play your favourites, try some new ones. A chance to really find out how to make them fly!
Suitable for all levels of experience.
See the Weekend Workshop page for more details.
Come and watch more high-octane comeday nonsense made up on the spot by the Frogs.
We are performing at the Arena Theatre Wolverhampton on Friday January 25th at 8pm. Just £5 for 2 hours of improvised mayhem!
The next day, Saturday January 26th, will find us at the Blue Orange Theatre in Birmingham, at 7.30pm. Again, just £5 for 2 hours of made up funnies!
Come along – we need your suggestions to make the night work!
May we be the first to wish you a Happy New Year for 2014!
Meanwhile, Frogs are taking a short break for the Festive Season.
Tuesday nights will start again on January 8th.
We have 2 performances lined up for January 2013. See you there!
Last weekend a Knot of Frogs (one of the official collective terms, apparently) headed up to Salford to challenge 7 other teams in Manchester’s THIRD Annual Comedy Improv Tournament. It’s only our third attempt to take part in competitive Improv, and unsuprisingly we didn’t win – or place, or survive the heat to be truthful.
But we did perform well, held our collective heads up high, had enormous fun, learned lots, and took home a bunch of new games to play on a Tuesday night. Thanks ComedySportz for having us, and to all the Frogs who gave up their Sunday to take part.
What a great gig at the Blue Orange last night! Thanks to all the Froggies who took part.
Lots of laughs from lots of old favourites. But also some gallant attempts at brand new games and formats - ”One Voice Interview”, a format stolen shamelessly off the internet, proved to be a crowd pleaser and definitely worth keeping in the repertoire. And “Meanwhile”, dreamed up in the bath a few weeks ago, held the audience rapt for 15 minutes, produced some really funny scenes, and a couple of moments of genuinely moving drama.
Thanks to the Blue Orange for hosting us, and the Comedy Festival for publicising the show.
Now roll on Bread and Circus on Wednesday. https://www.facebook.com/events/262581970530110/
Once again Box of Frogs is Officially Funny. We’re taking part in the Birmingham 2012 Comedy Festival, with both a show and a workshop.
On Saturday 13th October Jon will be running an all-day Improv Basics workshop at the Blue Orange Theatre. Suitable for complete beginners, or experienced improvisers who want to brush up on the fundamentals. If you’ve been inspired by one of our performances, come along and find out how we do it. A great day of guaranteed improvised fun! To reserve your place, email email@example.com, or book direct from the Blue Orange (click on link and follow the trail to The Studio)
And on Sunday 14th October, at 7pm, we will be bringing more hi-octane improvised comedy nonsense to the Blue Orange stage. A full-evening of made-up entertainment based entirely on audience suggestions. Unrehearsed, and improvised entirely live. No-one knows what will happen, least of all us! Expect to be amazed, expect the unexpected – but most of all expect to laugh! £5. Book direct from the Blue Orange (click on link and follow the trail to The Studio).
